Clay Center is a city in Nebraska, United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Clay County. The city is also part of the Hastings area. In 2010, about 760 people lived there.

History of Clay Center
Clay Center was started in 1879. The city got its name from Henry Clay, a famous leader from Kentucky. A post office has been open in Clay Center since 1879, helping people send and receive mail.

In 2010, about 760 people lived in Clay Center. There were 332 homes, and 214 of them were families. About 1,055 people lived in each square mile (or 407 people per square kilometer).
Most people living in Clay Center were White (95.4%). A smaller number were African American (0.4%) or Asian (0.1%). Some people were from other backgrounds (2.2%), and 1.8% were from two or more backgrounds. About 4.6% of the people were Hispanic or Latino.
In the homes, 27.7% had children under 18. More than half (54.8%) were married couples living together. About 32.8% of all homes had just one person living there. Also, 13.8% of homes had someone 65 years or older living alone.
The average age in the city was 42.8 years old. About 23.7% of residents were under 18. About 17% were 65 years or older. The city had almost an equal number of males (49.6%) and females (50.4%).
Education in Clay Center
Clay Center High School (CCHS) is known for its strong academics. The State Board of Education has given it an "A" rating. Students' test scores are usually higher than the state and national averages.
The school system, which includes kindergarten through 12th grade, has a modern high school building and a gym. In the last five years, CCHS teams have won five state championships in different sports. The school has experienced leaders and staff. There is a good teacher-to-student ratio, with about 1 teacher for every 10 students. Students who graduate can get scholarships from the community to help with college.
Clay Center High School also gets help from Educational Service Unit No. 9 in Hastings. This group provides resources and expert advice for teachers and students.
Clay Center is close to several colleges and universities. It is about an hour and a half from the University of Nebraska/Lincoln and the University of Nebraska/Kearney. It's only about half an hour from Hastings College and the Mary Lanning School of Nursing. Central Community College in Hastings is just 20 minutes away.
