The village of Clayton has a history that goes back many years.
When Clayton Got Its Name
A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, started operating in Clayton in 1876. The village was named after a person named Clayton Rodgers. He was a foreman, which means he was a supervisor, at a local mill.
