Early Life and Basketball Journey
Cliff Pondexter grew up in Fresno, California. He was a talented basketball player from a young age. He played for San Joaquin Memorial High School alongside his brother, Roscoe.
College Career
After high school, Cliff continued his basketball journey in college. He played for California State University, Long Beach. His skills on the court made him a standout player.
Professional Basketball Career
In 1974, Cliff Pondexter was chosen in the 1974 NBA draft. The Chicago Bulls picked him as the sixteenth player overall. This was a big step towards his professional career.
Playing for the Chicago Bulls
Cliff's start in the NBA was a bit delayed. He had a leg injury in the summer of 1974. He finally made his professional debut in the fall of 1975. From 1975 to 1978, he played 197 games for the Chicago Bulls. His best season with the Bulls was 1975–76. During that time, he averaged 5.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Moving to Europe
After his time with the Bulls, Cliff decided to play basketball in Europe. He continued his career there from 1978 to 1986. He played for several teams in different countries. These teams included ASPO Tours in France, Bartolini Brindisi and Scavolini Pesaro in Italy, and Hapoal Ramat Gan Giv’atayim and Hapoel Holon in Israel.
Family Connection
Cliff Pondexter's family has another basketball star. His nephew, Quincy Pondexter, also became a professional basketball player. Quincy was drafted into the NBA in 2010 by the New Orleans Hornets.
