Clifton Oyster Rocks facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Clifton Oyster Rocks are a group of small islands located near the coast of Karachi, Pakistan. They are found close to the famous Clifton Beach. These islands are known for a very tall water fountain called the Port Fountain, which is one of the tallest in the world!

What are the Clifton Oyster Rocks?

The Clifton Oyster Rocks are a cluster of islands right off the coast of the Clifton area in Karachi, Pakistan. For many years, these islands were managed by the Pakistani Navy. In 2006, the local city government of Karachi decided to take over the islands. They wanted to make the islands a special part of their plans to improve and modernize the city.

The Amazing Port Fountain

As part of the city's plans, a spectacular water fountain was built at the base of the northernmost island. This fountain is called the Port Fountain. It is incredibly powerful and can shoot water up to 620 feet (about 189 meters) into the air! This makes it the second-tallest fountain in the entire world. It's a truly impressive sight, especially when lit up at night.

Why are they called Oyster Rocks?

The islands get their name from the oysters that used to be found around them. While the area has changed over time, the name "Oyster Rocks" reminds us of the sea life that once thrived there. These islands are an important part of Karachi's coastline and its natural beauty.
