Discovering Clivocast: A Glimpse into History

Clivocast is a fascinating place with roots deep in history. It's a great spot to imagine what life was like long ago. The area is quite small, with around 100 people living there. It's part of the wider Shetland region, which has its own unique culture and beautiful landscapes.

The Mysterious Standing Stone of Uyea Breck

One of the most interesting features near Clivocast is the Uyea Breck Standing Stone. This tall stone stands about 3 meters (or 9 feet 10 inches) high. Standing stones are ancient monuments, often put in place by people thousands of years ago for reasons we don't fully understand today. They might have been used for ceremonies, to mark important places, or even as calendars.

A Viking Legend Connected to the Stone

There's a famous story linked to the Uyea Breck Standing Stone. It's said to mark the exact spot where the son of a powerful Viking leader was killed. This leader was named Harald Harfager, which means "Harald Fairhair." He was a famous king who united Norway around 900 AD.

The legend says Harald's son died here around that time. People believe he was buried in a tumulus (which is an ancient burial mound or a small hill built over a grave) located to the southwest of the stone. This story connects Clivocast directly to the exciting and adventurous world of the Vikings!
