Clue Club is an American animated TV show made by Hanna-Barbera Productions. It was shown on CBS from September 4 to December 11, 1976.
About the Show
The series is about four teenage detectives called the Clue Club. Their names are Larry, Pepper, D.D., and Dottie. They solve mysteries with the help of two talking dogs, Woofer and Wimper. Woofer is a bloodhound and Wimper is a basset hound. The Clue Club often investigated strange crimes. These included animals, trains, and even statues disappearing into thin air!
Clue Club only had one season of new episodes. These were shown on Saturday mornings on CBS.
In 1977, shorter versions of the Clue Club episodes were shown. They had a new name: Woofer & Wimper, Dog Detectives. This was to highlight the two dog characters. These shorter episodes were part of another CBS Saturday morning show called The Skatebirds. Later, they were also shown with The Three Robonic Stooges.
The full-length Clue Club episodes returned to CBS on Sunday mornings in 1978. After that, the show was re-aired on USA Cartoon Express in the 1980s. In the 1990s, it appeared on Cartoon Network as part of the Mysteries, Inc. block. It was also shown on Boomerang in the 2000s.
Meet the Characters
The show features seven main characters who help solve the mysteries:
- Woofer (voiced by Paul Winchell): He is a bloodhound who wears a deerstalker hat. Woofer often jumps to conclusions and accuses people without good reasons. Then he acts like a genius when he figures things out.
- Wimper (voiced by Jim MacGeorge): He is a smart and calm basset hound. Wimper sometimes goes along with Woofer's ideas. Other times, he helps Woofer see things more clearly.
- Larry (voiced by David Jolliffe): He is the oldest member and leader of the Clue Club. Larry usually talks to the suspects. He also shares what the Club has found with Dottie.
- Pepper (voiced by Patricia Stich): She is a blonde and Dottie's older sister. Pepper looks for clues and evidence, often with D.D. This sometimes leads to them being chased by the bad guys!
- D.D. (voiced by Bob Hastings): He wears glasses and a hat like Sherlock Holmes. D.D. often works with Pepper to find clues. We never learn what his initials stand for.
- Dottie (voiced by Tara Talboy): She is the youngest member of the Clue Club, at 13 years old. Her older sister Pepper and friends sometimes call her "half-pint" or "short-stuff." Dottie is very smart. She usually stays home and helps solve cases using her computer. She also does science tests on clues. Dottie has cool high-tech gear, like video links to the Club's car and pagers on their wristwatches. Her friends are very protective of her. Dottie often joins them in the field when she finishes her "homework."
- Sheriff Bagley (voiced by John Stephenson): He is the local sheriff. He often asks the Clue Club for help. He arrests the suspects once the Club solves the mystery. His first name is Lester.
