Coñocranra is a tall mountain in Peru. It is located in the Ancash Region, which is a part of Peru. This mountain is the highest peak in the Cordillera Negra mountain range. It stands at an impressive height of 5,181 meters (about 17,000 feet).

The name Coñocranra might come from the Quechua language. Quñuq means warm or lukewarm, and ranra means a stony place. So, it could mean "warm stony place."

Where is Coñocranra?

Coñocranra is found in the Andes mountain range. The Andes are the longest mountain range in the world. They stretch along the western side of South America.

This mountain is part of the Cordillera Negra. This is a mountain range in Peru. It runs parallel to another famous range called the Cordillera Blanca.

Amazing Views from the Top

If you were to stand on top of Coñocranra, you would see incredible views.

  • To the west, you can see the coast of Peru. It often looks a bit misty.
  • To the east, you can see the Cordillera Blanca. This range has some of the highest mountains in Peru. You can even spot Huascarán, which is Peru's tallest mountain at 6,768 meters (about 22,205 feet).

Between these two mountain ranges, the Santa River flows. This river helps bring life to a valley called the Callejón de Huaylas. The two mountain ranges then get very close together. This forms a narrow passage known as the Canyon del Pato. After cutting through the Cordillera Negra, the Santa River finally flows into the Pacific Ocean.
