The Coalport China Museum is a super interesting place! It's one of ten museums in the Ironbridge Gorge Museums family. This museum is found in a village called Coalport. It's right by the River Severn in Shropshire, England.

The Museum's Story

This museum tells the amazing story of Coalport China. This company made beautiful English chinaware. They worked right here from 1796 until 1926. A person named John Rose started the China Works in 1796. It became famous for its fine china throughout the 1800s.

After the factory closed, the company moved to Stoke-on-Trent. About 50 years later, the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust bought the old factory site. They opened it as a museum to visitors in 1976.

The museum is in a special place called a World Heritage Site. This area is known as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. That's because many new industries and technologies started here. It became a World Heritage Site in 1986.

What You Can See There

At the museum, you can see real examples of old Coalport china. You can also watch people show how pottery was made long ago. There are even original factory buildings, like the kilns. Kilns are big ovens used to bake the pottery.

The museum also holds the official National Collections of Caughley and Coalport china. There's a fun workshop area too. You can try painting activities there. During school holidays, you can even try ceramic activities!

On TV!

The museum was used as a filming spot for a TV show! The 1985 Doctor Who episode The Mark of the Rani was filmed here.
