The Story of Coca-Cola on Cape Cod

How the Company Started

The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Cape Cod began in 1939. A person named Musch Kayajan started it. He came from a family that owned a successful water company. Musch decided to open his own business. He wanted to bottle Coca-Cola drinks. His first location was in Sagamore, Massachusetts. This area is now near the Cape Cod Factory Outlet Mall.

Family Business and Growth

Musch Kayajan passed away in 1965. His son, John, took over the business. John worked with his mother, Amelia, to keep the company going. Amelia died in 1984. That same year, on May 16, the company opened a big new building. This new plant was about 80,000 square feet. It was built at the company's current location.

Challenges and Changes

Between 1989 and 1991, the company stopped bottling drinks. They had problems with cleaning the water used in their factory. In 1991, they found a solution. An outside company agreed to take their wastewater away to be cleaned. This allowed them to start bottling again.

However, by 1997, it became too expensive to bottle drinks at the plant. So, the company changed its business. They started buying sodas and other drinks from the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Northern New England. From then on, the Cape Cod location became a place to store and distribute drinks. It also became a center for sales and marketing. In 2008, the company even held a trade show. This show helped them display the products they were selling.

Wastewater and Contract Issues

In 1998, another important case happened. This one was called Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Cape Cod v. Weston & Sampson Engineers, Inc. This case was about the company's wastewater.
