Coca-Cola Light Sango was a special kind of Coca-Cola Light that tasted like blood orange. It was made by The Coca-Cola Company and was sold in France starting in mid-2005. This drink was unique because it was the first Coca-Cola flavor created outside of the company's main office in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

What Made Sango Special?

Coca-Cola Light Sango was developed partly because people in Belgium drank a lot of Coke Light. In fact, Belgium was known for having the most Coke Light drinkers per person (this is called "per capita"). The success of other citrus-flavored Coke Light drinks in Europe also helped inspire Sango.

The Meaning Behind the Name

The name "Sango" comes from the French word sang, which means "blood". This name was chosen because the drink had a blood orange flavor. Blood oranges are a type of orange with a reddish color inside.

Where Was Sango Made?

Coca-Cola Light Sango was produced in both France and Belgium. It was a popular drink for a few years. However, it was eventually stopped in 2008.

Sango's Legacy: New Flavors

Even though Coca-Cola Light Sango was discontinued, its spirit lived on. In early 2018, Coca-Cola launched a similar drink in the U.S. and Canada. This new drink was called "Zesty Blood Orange." That same year, other new Diet Coke flavors were also released. These included lime, mango, and cherry.
