Cockleshell Bay was a super fun stop-motion children's television series. It aired during lunchtime on ITV in the early 1980s. This show was created by Cosgrove Hall, a famous animation studio. They made it for Thames Television, which was part of the ITV network.

Cockleshell Bay actually started as a regular story feature on another popular ITV show, Rainbow. You can even see a rainbow design in the Cockleshell Bay logo! Other cool kids' shows on ITV around the same time included Let's Pretend and Jamie and the Magic Torch.

Meet the Characters

The main characters in Cockleshell Bay were twin siblings, Robin and Rosie Cockle. They lived in a cozy place called the Bucket and Spade guest house. Their parents, Helen and Christopher, ran the guest house. The family had moved to Cockleshell Bay from a big city called “Roughington.” Robin and Rosie's parents wanted to leave city life behind. Their dad also wanted to stop working in a factory.

Even though Robin and Rosie often had little arguments, it was clear they really enjoyed being together. They had lots of adventures!

Friends and Family

  • Gran Routy: She wasn't actually related to the Cockle family. But everyone called her "Gran" because she had so many grandchildren of her own! She helped out a lot at the guest house.
  • Mr. Ezikiel Shipham: Most people just called him Mr. Ship. He was a good friend to the twins.
  • Mr. McGinty: He owned a donkey named Fury. Mr. Ship often helped look after Fury.
  • Ben Gunn: This was a special "pirate seagull" who was also a friend.
  • Holly: In the later series of the show, Robin and Rosie got a new baby sister named Holly.
