Jamie and the Magic Torch is a fun British animated television series for children. It was created by Cosgrove Hall for Thames Television. The show was first seen on the ITV network from 1976 to 1979. It became popular again in the 1980s.

The series was written and narrated by Brian Trueman. He also wrote other famous shows like Danger Mouse and Count Duckula. Kate Murray-Henderson also lent her voice to Jamie's Mother and the character Nutmeg.

Discovering Cuckoo Land

The show is all about a young boy named Jamie and his special torch. When Jamie shines the torch on the floor, something amazing happens! A magical hole opens up. This hole leads to a super fun place called Cuckoo Land.

Every episode starts with Jamie's mother tucking him into bed. She always tells him, "Sleep well, Jamie." Then, Jamie's pet dog, Wordsworth, appears from under the bed. Wordsworth is an Old English Sheepdog and he holds the magic torch in his mouth.

Jamie takes the torch and shines it on the floor. The hole to Cuckoo Land opens up like a giant helter skelter slide! Wordsworth always gets stuck trying to go down it. They slide all the way down into the magical world.

When they reach the end of the slide, they fly out of a tree trunk. They land safely on a bouncy trampoline. A catchy song, written by Joe Griffiths, plays during this exciting journey. Once they are in Cuckoo Land, the adventures begin!

Meet the Cuckoo Land Friends

Cuckoo Land is full of unique and funny characters. Jamie and Wordsworth meet new friends in every adventure. Here are some of the main characters they encounter:
