Coelia bella is a beautiful type of orchid flower. It grows naturally in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, and Costa Rica in Central America. When it blooms, its flowers look like trumpets and smell very strongly, a bit like marzipan (a sweet almond paste). You can usually see these lovely flowers in the autumn.
Growing Coelia bella Orchids
These orchids are quite special, but you can grow them if you know how! Here's what they need to be happy:
Light Needs
Coelia bella orchids like medium light. Imagine light similar to what a Phalaenopsis or Cattleya orchid would enjoy. They do well near windows that face East, West, or South. They also grow very well under special plant lights.
Temperature Needs
These plants can handle many different temperatures. They seem to grow best in intermediate temperatures, which means not too hot and not too cold.
Water Needs
Coelia bella orchids have roots that are a bit hairy, like the roots of a Paphiopedilum or Phragmipedium orchid. They like water and need to stay moist. It's best to let their roots get almost dry between waterings, but never let them dry out completely.
