Coenraad Victor Oosthuizen (born March 22, 1989), often called 'Coenie' or 'Shrek', is a professional rugby union player. He plays as a prop for Sale Sharks in England. Before joining Sale Sharks, he played for teams like the Free State Cheetahs and Sharks in South Africa. He also played for the Springboks, which is South Africa's national rugby team.

Coenie Oosthuizen's Rugby Journey

Coenie Oosthuizen started his education at Laerskool Gustav Preller. He then went to Grey College in Bloemfontein, a famous school for rugby players.

Playing Style and Skills

Coenie mainly plays as a loose-head prop. This position is in the front row of the scrum. He can also play on the other side of the scrum. Even though he is a big player, weighing 127 kg, he is surprisingly fast. In the 2010 Currie Cup season, he scored the most tries for the Cheetahs team. Coenie is known for his powerful runs and hard work on the field. He sometimes found scrums challenging against players who were very technical.

Early Career Highlights

In 2010, Coenie scored three tries in one game for the Free State Cheetahs. This is called a hat trick in rugby. It happened during a Currie Cup game against the Griquas team. After this great season, he was chosen to be part of the Springbok squad. This was for their tour of Europe in November 2010.

International Debut

Coenie Oosthuizen played his first official test match for the Springboks on June 9, 2012. This game was against the England team in Durban.

Moving to New Teams

Before the 2016 Super Rugby season, Coenie signed a four-year contract with the Sharks team. Later, on May 13, 2019, it was announced that he would join Sale Sharks in England. He signed a three-year deal with them. He moved to Sale Sharks after the 2019 Super Rugby season ended.

Playing for South Africa 'A'

In 2016, Coenie was part of the South Africa 'A' squad. They played two matches against the touring England Saxons team. He came on as a substitute in the first match in Bloemfontein. His team lost that game 32–24. He also played from the bench in the second match in George, which they lost 26–29.
