Coenraad Victor Oosthuizen (born 22 March 1989), known as 'Coenie' or 'Shrek', is a professional rugby union player from South Africa. He plays for Sale Sharks in England's top rugby league, the Premiership. Coenie is famous for his powerful runs and surprising speed for a player of his size. He has also played for the Springboks, South Africa's national rugby team.

Coenie Oosthuizen's Rugby Journey

Coenie Oosthuizen started his education at Laerskool Gustav Preller in Roodepoort. Later, he attended Grey College in Bloemfontein, a well-known school for sports.

Playing Position and Style

Coenie mainly plays as a loosehead prop. This position is at the front of the scrum. He can also play on the other side of the scrum. He is known for being very strong and fast, even though he weighs about 127 kilograms (280 pounds).

He is famous for his strong runs with the ball. He also works very hard all over the field during a game. In 2010, he was the top try scorer for the Cheetahs team in the Currie Cup season.

Early Career Highlights

In 2010, Coenie scored three tries in one game, which is called a hat trick. This happened when his team, the Free State Cheetahs, played against the Griquas team in the Currie Cup. After this amazing season, he was chosen to join the Springboks squad for their tour of Europe in November 2010.

International Debut

Coenie made his first official test match appearance for the Springboks on 9 June 2012. This game was against the England team in Durban. It was a big moment in his career.

Moving to New Teams

In 2016, Coenie signed a four-year contract to play for the Sharks team. This was before the 2016 Super Rugby season began.

Later, on 13 May 2019, it was announced that he would move to England. He signed a three-year deal with Sale Sharks. He joined them after the 2019 Super Rugby season finished.

Playing for South Africa 'A'

In 2016, Coenie was part of the South Africa 'A' squad. This team played two matches against the touring England Saxons team. He came on as a substitute in the first game in Bloemfontein. His team lost that match 32–24. He also played as a substitute in the second game in George, which his team lost 26–29.
