Collège Saint-Alexandre de la Gatineau is a private high school located in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. It is found on Rue Saint-Louis in the Limbour neighborhood. This school was started in 1905 by a group called the Communauté des pères du Saint-Esprit. It offers a general education program in French for young people. Students can earn a high school diploma here.
The school used to be only for boys. But in 1990, it started welcoming girls too. Collège Saint-Alexandre is known for its excellent education. It often ranks among the top high schools in Quebec. Students come from many nearby towns. These include Ottawa, Hull, Gatineau, and Chelsea.
The school's motto is Vitam Impedere Vero. This is a Latin phrase from an old poet named Juvenal. It means "To devote one's life to the truth." The land where the school stands was once bought by a Canadian politician named Alonzo Wright.

The Building's Early Days
The main building of Collège Saint-Alexandre has a long history. It was built in 1850 by Alonzo Wright, a Canadian politician. At first, it was used as a large home for parties and gatherings. Mr. Wright passed away in 1894. After his wife died in 1904, the property was sold.
From Manor to School
Jesuit priests bought the property in 1904. They were leaving France because of new laws that separated church and state. They wanted to turn the building into a private school. Here, they planned to teach classic subjects. These included philosophy, Greek, and Latin.
In 1912, the school officially became Collège Saint-Alexandre. It was founded by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. In 1965, big changes happened in Quebec's education system. The Quebec government took a larger role in schools during the Quiet Revolution. Because of these changes, the classical courses were stopped.
Modern Times and New Students
Over time, priests gradually stopped teaching at the school. Today, Collège Saint-Alexandre is similar to public schools in its teaching approach. In the 1988-1989 school year, the first female students were allowed to attend. The first group of girls finished their high school studies in 1993.
In 2004, students at the College started wearing uniforms. They already had strict rules about what they could wear. The uniform policy made it even clearer.
