Colombia first joined the Youth Olympic Games at the very first event in 2010 in Singapore. Since then, Colombia has sent a team to every Summer Youth Olympic Games. They also started participating in the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2016 in Lillehammer.

The Colombian city of Medellín even tried to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. However, in 2013, the games were chosen to be held in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, instead.
