Colonel Meow (born around 2011 – died January 29, 2014) was a very famous cat. He was a special mix of a Himalayan and Persian cat. Colonel Meow became well-known because of his grumpy-looking face and incredibly long fur.
In 2014, he even held a Guinness World Record for having the longest fur on a cat. His fur was about nine inches (or 23 centimeters) long! His owners shared pictures of his unique scowl on Facebook and Instagram. This made him an Internet celebrity. His many fans, called "minions," lovingly described him as an "adorable fearsome dictator" and "the angriest cat in the world."
Becoming an Internet Star
Colonel Meow was a rescue cat. He was found by an organization called Seattle Persian and Himalayan Rescue. Later, he was adopted by his owner, Anne Marie Avey, from a Petco store.
He became famous online when his owner started posting pictures of his angry-looking face. People loved his grumpy expression and his very long, fluffy fur. Soon, he had hundreds of thousands of followers on social media.
Health and Passing
In November 2013, Colonel Meow became sick. He had some heart problems and needed to go to the hospital. He had a difficult surgery and received a blood transfusion to help him get better.
Sadly, on January 30, 2014, his owner announced on Facebook that Colonel Meow had passed away. She thanked his more than 350,000 followers for all their support and love.
In July 2014, a pet food company called Friskies made a special advertisement. It was called "Cat Summer." Friskies announced that for every time the video was watched, they would donate one meal to cats in need. They did this in Colonel Meow's memory. The video also featured other famous internet cats, like Grumpy Cat.
