History of Colony

Colony started in 1872. This was when a railroad was built through the area. The city got its name from a group of settlers. These settlers came from Ohio and Indiana. They formed a 'colony' in the neighborhood.

Today, the old railroad tracks are a special path. It's called a rail trail. This trail is part of the Prairie Spirit Trail State Park. It's a great place for walking or biking.
