Columbus is a small town in North Carolina, United States. It's the main town, or county seat, for Polk County. In 2020, about 1,060 people lived there.

A Look Back in Time

Columbus has some important old buildings. The Green River Plantation, the J. G. Hughes House, and the Polk County Courthouse are all listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are special places that are kept safe because of their history.

Columbus is located in western North Carolina. It is southeast of the city of Asheville. The town is also just a few miles north of the border with South Carolina.

Main roads help people travel through Columbus. North Carolina Highway 108 runs right through the town. U.S. Route 74 goes through the northern part. Also, Interstate 26 passes through the eastern side.
