The Monte Cervino Mountain Community (called Comunità montana Monte Cervino in Italian) is a special group of 12 towns, or comuni, in the Valle d'Aosta region of Italy. This community is named after the famous Monte Cervino mountain. The Matterhorn is a huge mountain in the Alps that sits on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It is found at the northern end of the Valtournenche valley, which is part of this community.

What Does the Monte Cervino Community Do?

The main goal of this community is to help the valleys in the region grow and develop. They work to protect the local culture and the natural environment. The community also gives technical help to all the towns in its area.

Some of their most important activities include:

  • Protecting alpine pastures, which are mountain grasslands where animals graze.
  • Helping tourism grow in the area, so more people can visit and enjoy the beautiful mountains.

Where is the Monte Cervino Mountain Community Located?

This community is in the central part of the Valle d'Aosta region. It is located to the east and northeast of Aosta, which is the capital city of the region. The towns in the community are found in the main central valley and in a smaller valley called the Valtournenche valley.

The main river flowing through the community is the Dora Baltea. It travels from east to west through the area. Another smaller river, the Marmore, flows through the Valtournenche valley. It joins the Dora Baltea at Châtillon.

The Monte Cervino Mountain Community covers an area of about 335.50 square kilometers (129.54 square miles). In 2013, it had a population of 16,797 people. This means there were about 50 people living in each square kilometer.

The main office, or headquarters, of the mountain community is in the town of Châtillon.
