Conchata Galen Ferrell (born March 28, 1943 – died October 12, 2020) was an American actress. She was famous for playing Berta, the funny housekeeper, on the TV show Two and a Half Men. She was on the show for all 12 seasons, from 2003 to 2015. For her role as Berta, she was nominated for a special award called the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series twice. Before that, she was also nominated for an Emmy for her work in the TV drama L.A. Law in 1992.

Early Life and Education
Conchata Galen Ferrell was born on March 28, 1943, in Loudendale, West Virginia. Her parents were Mescal Loraine and Luther Martin Ferrell. She grew up in Charleston, West Virginia, and later her family moved to Circleville, Ohio.
She went to West Virginia University for two years. After working different jobs, she decided to go back to school. She graduated from Marshall University with a degree in history education. Her very first time acting on stage was at Marshall University in 1969. It was in a comedy and music show called the Barfenon Review.
Acting Career
Conchata Ferrell started her acting journey on stage. She was part of the Circle Repertory Company. She performed in a play called The Hot l Baltimore and won several awards for her role in another play called The Sea Horse. These awards included the Drama Desk Award, Obie Award, and Theatre World Award.
She acted in plays, TV shows, and movies for many years. Some people first knew her from the 1979 movie Heartland, where she played a strong frontier wife. She also played the tough but funny owner of a pizza place in the movie Mystic Pizza. In this movie, she acted alongside stars like Julia Roberts. She also played a comical nurse in the 1980s TV show E/R.
In 1992, she was nominated for her first Primetime Emmy Award. This was for her role as Attorney Susan Bloom in the TV show L.A. Law.
Conchata Ferrell had many supporting roles in popular movies. These included Edward Scissorhands, Erin Brockovich, Mr. Deeds, and K-PAX. She also had a small part in True Romance. On TV, she appeared in many shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Friends (where she played a judge), Matlock, and The Love Boat. She often played characters who were strong, direct, and sometimes very funny.
Her most famous role was Berta the Housekeeper in the CBS comedy show Two and a Half Men. She appeared in over 200 episodes from 2003 to 2015. Her performance as Berta earned her two more Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series nominations in 2005 and 2007.
In 2012, she lent her voice to the character of Bob's Mom in the animated movie Frankenweenie, which was directed by Tim Burton. She also acted in a holiday TV movie called A Very Nutty Christmas in 2018. Her last film role was in Deported, which was released after she passed away.
Personal Life and Death
Conchata Ferrell married Arnie Anderson around 1986. She had a daughter named Samantha, born in 1982. She also had two stepdaughters.
She was a member of the Democratic Party and followed the Methodist faith.
Conchata Ferrell passed away on October 12, 2020. She was 77 years old. She died from problems that came after she had a cardiac arrest (when the heart suddenly stops beating). She died at the Sherman Oaks Hospital in Sherman Oaks, California.
