Concord is a small place in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. It is an unincorporated community. This means it does not have its own local government. Concord is located along Delaware Route 20, just east of the town of Seaford.
It's important not to confuse this Concord with another place called Concord in New Castle County, Delaware. The other Concord is part of Wilmington and is found along Delaware Route 202.
History of Concord
Early Industry in Concord
Concord was once an important place for making iron. In the late 1700s and early 1800s, there were several special furnaces here. These furnaces used "bog-iron," which is a type of iron ore found in swampy areas.
One important historical site is the Pine Grove Furnace Site. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. This means it is a special place recognized for its history.
Concord's Population Over Time
The number of people living in Concord has changed over the years. In 1890, about 300 people lived there. By 1900, the population was 269. It grew to 315 people in 1925. In 1960, about 400 people called Concord home.
