Concord is a small place in Indiana that isn't officially a town or city. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a mayor or city council.

Concord is located in Lauramie Township, which is part of Tippecanoe County. You can find it just west of another small community called Stockwell. It's also part of the larger Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History of Concord

Early Days and the Post Office

Concord has a long history, even though it's a small place. Back in 1837, a post office was opened there. This was a big deal because it helped people send and receive letters. It connected the community to the rest of the world.

The post office served the people of Concord for many years. However, it eventually closed down. It stopped operating in 1868.

Concord is found in Lauramie Township. It's about four miles south of the city of Lafayette. You can pinpoint its location around where county roads 350 East and 900 South meet.

Local Waterways and Roads

A small body of water called Wea Creek runs along the western side of Concord. There's also an east branch of this creek to the south. These two parts of the creek join together just west of the community. From there, they flow generally northwest until they reach the larger Wabash River.

One of the main roads in Concord is County Road S. 350 East. This road is also known as Concord Road. It keeps this name when it enters Lafayette. In the past, this same road was called Main Street within Concord itself.

Original Street Layout

When Concord was first planned, it had a simple street layout. Besides the main road, it had two other north-south streets. These were named Mulberry and Poplar. There were also four streets that ran east-west. Their names were Hickory, Elm, Main-Cross, and Walnut.
