The Confederate Monument in Morganfield, Kentucky is a special statue. It was built to remember soldiers who fought for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. Morganfield is the main town in Union County, Kentucky. You can find it in the City Cemetery/Odd Fellows Cemetery, just outside the center of Morganfield.
During the Civil War, many people in Union County supported the Confederacy. About 657 soldiers from the county joined the Confederate side. Fewer, around 187, joined the Union army. Later, in 1864, about 131 African-Americans from the area also joined the Union forces. In July 1862, Union soldiers came to Caseyville, Kentucky. They questioned many people, but most were later let go. A small fight happened in Morganfield on September 1, 1862. The Confederate side won that small battle.

What is the Morganfield Confederate Monument?
The monument is made of a strong limestone base. On top of it stands a tall, pointed white marble obelisk. An obelisk is like a tall, thin pyramid.
Long ago, the names of 64 soldiers who died in battle were carved into the monument. It also said that "Union County mourns the loss of:" these soldiers. Because it is very old, much of the writing on the monument is now hard to read.
