Connelsville is a small, unincorporated community located in Adair County, Missouri, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially part of a city or town. It's situated in Nineveh Township, Adair County, Missouri.

This community is found along Missouri Route 149. It's about three miles north of Novinger and eight miles northwest of Kirksville. A stream called Shuteye Creek flows past the northern part of Connelsville. This creek later joins the Chariton River about a mile to the east.

History of Connelsville

Connelsville was established in 1902. It was built right next to an older town called Nineveh. The main reason Connelsville was created was because a railroad line was extended to that area. When the railroad arrived, it made it easier for people and goods to travel, which helped new communities grow.

The name "Connelsville" actually came from another place: Connellsville, Pennsylvania. It's common for new settlements to be named after places people came from or places they admired.

A post office was opened in Connelsville in 1902, the same year the community was founded. This was important because it allowed people to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years before it closed in 1937.

Population of Connelsville

According to the 2020 United States Census, the population of Connelsville was 53 people.
