Conor Terence Murphy (born 10 July 1963) is an Irish politician from the Sinn Féin party. He is currently a senator for the Industrial and Commercial Panel in Ireland, a role he has held since January 2025. Before this, he served as the Minister for the Economy in Northern Ireland from 2024 to 2025. He was also a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Newry and Armagh from 2015 to 2025. Earlier in his career, he was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Newry and Armagh from 2005 to 2015.

Early Life and Education
Conor Murphy was born in Camlough, a village in South Armagh, Northern Ireland. He attended St Colman's College in Newry. He later studied at the University of Ulster and Queen's University of Belfast.
Political Career
Conor Murphy has had a long career in politics, holding several important positions. He started his political journey at a local level before moving to regional and national roles.
Local Government Role
From 1989 to 1997, Conor Murphy was a local councillor for Sinn Féin. He represented The Fews area on the Newry and Mourne District Council. During this time, he was also the leader of his party's group on the council.
Serving in the Assembly
In 1998, Conor Murphy was elected as a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly for Newry and Armagh. He was re-elected to the Assembly in 2003. He served as the Minister for Regional Development in the Northern Ireland Executive from May 2007 to May 2011.
Member of Parliament
In 2001, he ran for the Newry and Armagh seat in the UK Parliament but came in second. However, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Newry and Armagh on 5 May 2005. Following Sinn Féin's policy, he did not take his seat in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. This policy is known as abstentionism.
Recent Roles and Seanad Election
Conor Murphy continued to serve as an MLA for Newry and Armagh until January 2025. From February 2024 to January 2025, he was the Minister for the Economy in Northern Ireland.
In January 2025, he ran in the 2025 Seanad election for the Industrial and Commercial Panel in Ireland. He was elected and resigned from the Northern Ireland Assembly to take up his new role. On 12 February 2025, Conor Murphy was appointed as the Leader of Sinn Féin in the Seanad.
