Conor Terence Murphy (born 10 July 1963) is a politician from Northern Ireland. He is a member of the Sinn Féin party. Since 2024, he has been the Minister for the Economy in Northern Ireland.
Conor Murphy has also served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Newry and Armagh area since 2015. Before that, he was a Member of Parliament (MP) for the same area from 2005 to 2015.

Early Life and Beginnings
Conor Murphy was born in Camlough, a village in South Armagh. He became involved in political activism at a young age. In 1982, he was involved in activities that led to a prison sentence.
He went to St Colman's College in Newry. Later, he studied at the University of Ulster and Queen's University of Belfast.
Political Journey
Conor Murphy has held several important roles in politics.
Local Council Work
From 1989 to 1997, he was a local councillor for Sinn Féin. He represented the Fews area on the Newry and Mourne District Council. During this time, he was also the leader of his party's group on the council.
Serving in the Assembly
In 1998, Conor Murphy was first elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly. He represented the Newry and Armagh area. He was re-elected to the Assembly in 2003.
From 2007 to 2011, he served as the Minister for Regional Development in the Northern Ireland Executive. This role involved looking after things like roads and water services.
Member of Parliament
In 2001, he ran for the Westminster seat for Newry and Armagh but did not win that time. However, in 2005, he was elected as the MP for Newry and Armagh.
As an MP for Sinn Féin, he followed the party's policy of abstentionism. This means he did not take his seat in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom in London.
Current Role
Since February 2024, Conor Murphy has been the Minister for the Economy in Northern Ireland. This job involves working on things that help the economy grow and create jobs.
