Conway is a small, unincorporated community located in Carson County, Texas, in the United States. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In the year 2000, about 20 people lived here. Conway is part of the larger area around Amarillo.

Conway's Early Days: A Texas Community's Story
Conway began its journey in 1892. A post office, which is where mail is handled, opened in 1903. It stayed open for many years until 1976.
How Conway Got Its Name
In 1905, two people named J. D. Delzell and P. H. Fisher planned out the town. They named it after H. B. Conway, who used to be a county commissioner. This happened after the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railway train line arrived, which likely helped inspire the town's creation.
Growing the Community
In 1907, Edward S. Carr started a store that sold many different goods. He also became the postmaster, in charge of the post office. Soon after, more businesses opened. These included a blacksmith shop, a grocery store, and a train depot. A special machine called a steam-powered threshing machine helped local farmers harvest their wheat.
Community Life and Growth
By 1912, a church was built that welcomed everyone, no matter their specific beliefs. In the 1920s, the town started a community club. They also began holding an annual community fair, which is like a yearly festival.
The number of people living in Conway changed over time.
- In 1925, there were only about 25 residents.
- By 1939, the population grew to an estimated 125 people.
- In 1969, 175 people lived there.
- By 1970, the population dropped to 50. At that time, Conway had two grain elevators, four gas stations, three cafes, and a general store. Some of these businesses later closed down.
- In 1990, the population was still 50.
- By 2000, it had decreased to 20 people.
A Tornado in Conway
On April 17, 1970, a strong tornado, rated F4, hit Conway. It caused some minor damage to the area.

Conway was once home to an airport called the Eagles Aerodrome.
Where is Conway Located?
Conway is found along Interstate 40 and Texas State Highway 207. It is about 9 miles (14 km) south of Panhandle. It is also about 12 miles (19 km) east of Amarillo. All of these locations are in the southern part of Carson County.
Learning in Conway: The Lone Star School
The Lone Star School was one of the very first schools in the Texas Panhandle. It was built in Conway in 1892. This school taught the children of local farmers. In 1905, the original one-room school building was moved to its current spot. In 1943, the school joined the Panhandle Independent School District. The old school building then became a place for community events.
