Vanice Palmer was born on August 5, 1993. She grew up in Irvington, New Jersey. Her parents were both DJs. They often played Chicago house music. Cookiee Kawaii went to Catholic school. There, she sang in choirs.
When she was 12, she started writing poetry. She would perform her poems over music beats. By 2011, she began making her own songs. She first used the name Harajuku Cookiee.
