The Coos History Museum is a special place in Coos Bay, Oregon, United States. It's like a time capsule that helps us learn about the past of the Coos County area. The museum is run by the Coos County Historical Society. It first opened its doors in 1947.

About the Coos History Museum

The Coos History Museum is a fun place to explore the history of the southern Oregon coast. It tells the stories of the people and events that shaped Coos County.

How the Museum Started

The story of the museum began a long time ago, on November 5, 1891. That's when the Coos County Pioneer Association was formed. This group wanted to remember and honor the early settlers of Coos County.

Later, in 1941, the group changed its name to the Coos-Curry Pioneer Association. This was done to include people from the nearby Curry County too.

The association opened its very first museum in July 1947. It was located in a town called Coquille. A few years later, in January 1958, the museum moved to Simpson Park in North Bend.

A New Home for History

In 2004, the historical society received a wonderful gift: a piece of land right on the waterfront in Coos Bay. This was a perfect spot for a new, bigger museum!

After raising money, construction for the new building started in 2011. The building was finished in February 2015. The new Coos History Museum officially opened its doors on the city's waterfront in September 2015. The Governor of Oregon, Kate Brown, even came to the grand opening!
