The Coos History Museum is a fun place to visit in Coos Bay, Oregon, United States. It's a museum where you can explore the history of the Coos County area. The museum first opened its doors in 1947. It is run by a group called the Coos County Historical Society.

History of the Museum

The story of the Coos History Museum began a long time ago. On November 5, 1891, a group called the Coos County Pioneer Association was formed. This group was interested in the early settlers of Coos County. This area is located on the beautiful Southern Oregon coast.

Changes Over Time

Later, in 1941, the group changed its name. It became the Coos-Curry Pioneer Association. This change happened because people from nearby Curry County also joined. The association wanted to include everyone.

The very first museum opened in July 1947. It was located in a town called Coquille. A few years later, in January 1958, the museum moved. Its new home was in Simpson Park, which is in North Bend.

A New Home for History

In 2004, the historical society received a special gift. They were given a piece of land right on the waterfront in Coos Bay. This was a perfect spot for a new museum building.

After raising money, construction on the new building started in 2011. The building was finished in February 2015. The new Coos History Museum officially opened its doors in September 2015. The governor of Oregon, Kate Brown, even came to the grand opening!
