Copap is a tall mountain in the Andes mountain range in Peru. Its peak reaches about 5,570 meters (or 18,274 feet) above sea level. That's super high!
The name Copap might come from the Quechua language. Qupa means the mineral turquoise or the color turquoise. So, the mountain's name could be related to this beautiful blue-green color.
Where is Mount Copap?
Copap is found in the Cordillera Blanca. This is a part of the Andes mountains in Peru. It's located in an area called Ancash Region, specifically in Asunción Province, Chacas District.
Another mountain, Perlilla, is in the same group of mountains as Copap. Perlilla is also part of Copap's glacier system.
Copap's Amazing Glacier
Mount Copap is known for its large glacier. A glacier is like a huge river of ice that moves very slowly.
In 1998, experts said that Copap had the longest glacier in the entire Cordillera Blanca range. This giant ice river stretched for about 7 kilometers (or 4.3 miles)! Glaciers are important because they store a lot of fresh water.
