Corinne Demas grew up in New York City. She lived in a neighborhood called Stuyvesant Town. This place was so special to her that she wrote a memoir about it. The book is called Eleven Stories High, Growing Up in Stuyvesant Town, 1948-1968.

She went to Hunter College High School. Later, she studied at Tufts University. She earned an advanced degree, a PhD, from Columbia University. Her studies focused on English and different types of literature.

Corinne Demas lived in Pittsburgh for ten years. During that time, she taught at the University of Pittsburgh. She also taught at Chatham College. In 1978, she moved to New England. She started teaching at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She is now a professor emerita there. This means she is a retired professor who is still honored by the college.

She helps edit The Massachusetts Review, a literary magazine. Corinne Demas is also a member of several important groups for writers. These include The Authors Guild, PEN, and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She lives in Western Massachusetts and on Cape Cod.
