Corinthian-Casuals Football Club is a football team from Tolworth, England. They are part of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. The club is linked with the London Football Association. They play their games at King George's Field.
History of the Club
The club started in 1939. It was formed by joining two older amateur teams: Corinthian (from 1882) and Casuals (from 1883). The new team played only one game. Then, football stopped because of World War II.
After the war, Corinthian-Casuals joined the Isthmian League. In the 1953–54 season, they won the Surrey Senior Cup. They beat Epsom 2–0 in the final match. Two seasons later, they reached the final of the FA Amateur Cup. They drew 1–1 against Bishop Auckland at Wembley Stadium. But they lost the replay game 4–1. The next season, they made it to the semi-finals. They lost 4–2 to Wycombe Wanderers. In 1965–66, the club played in the first round of the FA Cup for the first time. They lost 5–1 at home to Watford.
The club had some tough years in the late 1960s and early 1970s. They finished last in their league for several seasons. This led to them being moved down to a lower division. In 1983–84, they reached the FA Cup first round again. They drew 0–0 with Bristol City. They lost the replay game 4–0. After this season, new rules meant they had to leave the Isthmian League. They then joined the Spartan League. They were moved down a division in their first year there. But they quickly won the Senior Division title. This was the club's first ever league championship. They moved back up to the Premier Division right away.
In 1988–89, Corinthian-Casuals went on a tour to Brazil. They even played a match against Corinthians. In that game, famous player Sócrates played for both teams! In 1994–95, they won the Spartan League Cup. In 1996, the club moved to the Combined Counties Football League. They finished second in their first season there. In 1997, they returned to the Isthmian League.
The team toured Brazil again in 2001. In 2010–11, they won the Surrey Senior Cup for a second time. They beat Leatherhead 2–0 in the final. In 2015, they went back to Brazil to play Corinthians again. The Brazilian team won that match 3–0. In 2016–17, they finished fourth in their division. This meant they could play in the promotion play-offs. They won their semi-final but lost the final on penalties.
In the 2017–18 season, they finished fifth and reached the play-offs again. They won their semi-final. They lost the final on penalties. But, because of results in other leagues, they were still promoted! They moved up to the Premier Division. In 2022–23, they were moved down a division. The next season, they were moved down again. This time they joined the Combined Counties League Premier Division South.
Where They Play
After the club started, they played their first game at Lambeth Palace. After World War II, they played at Kingstonian's Richmond Road ground. This was where Casuals F.C. used to play. But they left in 1946. They then played at many different grounds. These included the Polytechnic Ground in Chiswick, the Oval, Dulwich Hamlet's Champion Hill, and Tooting & Mitcham United's Sandy Lane. They also played at Molesey's Walton Road and Wimbledon Park Athletics Stadium.
In 1988, the club joined with Tolworth. They took over Tolworth's ground, King George's Field. This was the first time the club owned its own stadium. The ground used to have a running track around the pitch. This track was later removed. They added covered standing areas behind both goals. A stand was built along one side of the pitch. It has a small section of seats. These seats came from other famous stadiums like Plough Lane. The ground can hold 2,000 people. About 250 of those can sit down.
