Basketball Career

College Years

Corky Calhoun played college basketball for the Penn Quakers at the University of Pennsylvania. He played in 84 games for the team. During his time, he averaged 12.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. His coach was Chuck Daly.

In his final year, 1972, Calhoun helped lead Penn to an amazing 25–3 record. They also made it to the East Regional Final of the NCAA tournament. This showed he was a very talented player.

NBA Journey

After college, Corky Calhoun was a top pick in the 1972 NBA draft. The Phoenix Suns chose him as the 4th player overall. He was also drafted by the Kentucky Colonels in the American Basketball Association (ABA) draft, but he chose to play in the NBA.

Calhoun played for the Phoenix Suns for three years. After that, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. In 1976, he joined the Portland Trail Blazers as a free agent. This was a great move because he became a key part of their team that won the NBA Championship in 1977!
