James Samuel "Cornbread" Harris Jr. (born April 23, 1927) is a talented American musician. He is known as a singer and pianist. Cornbread Harris performs in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He played on Minnesota's very first rock 'n' roll record. He is also the father of famous record producer Jimmy Jam.

Early Life and Family
James Samuel Harris Jr. was born on April 23, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois. When he was very young, he became an orphan. He lived with foster families for several years. Later, he and his sister moved to live with their grandparents. They settled in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Cornbread Harris has a daughter named Jennifer Harris. He is also the father of Jimmy Jam. Jimmy Jam is a well-known record producer. He has produced music for many famous artists. These artists include Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Usher.
Musical Beginnings
Early in his life, country music was a big influence on Cornbread Harris. He enjoyed listening to artists like Hank Williams and Gene Autry. These musicians helped shape his love for music.
Music Career and Performances
Cornbread Harris helped write a song called "Hi Yo Silver." This song was released in 1955. It became Minnesota's first rock 'n' roll recording. Harris also performed on this record. He often called it a "one-hit wonder."
After serving in the U.S. military, Harris worked for many years. He worked for about 25 years at a company called American Hoist & Derrick.
