Cornelius Ingram (born June 10, 1985) is a former American football player. He played as a tight end. Cornelius also played both college football and college basketball for the University of Florida. The Philadelphia Eagles picked him in the 2009 NFL draft. He spent three seasons with the Eagles, mostly on their practice squad. He also spent time with the Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos.

College Sports Star

Cornelius Ingram earned a sports scholarship to the University of Florida. He played for the Florida Gators football team from 2004 to 2007. He started out practicing as a quarterback for the team.

Playing Football and Basketball

In 2004, Cornelius also joined the Florida Gators basketball team. He played in 19 games as a shooting guard during his first year.

In 2005, he became a "redshirt freshman" in football. This means he took a year off from playing games to practice and get stronger. He then moved from quarterback to tight end. He played in two football games that season.

Championship Wins

In 2006, as a sophomore, Cornelius helped the Florida Gators win the 2006 BCS National Championship. This is a huge college football title! He caught 30 passes for 380 yards that year.

After his junior season in 2007, Cornelius was named a second-team All-SEC player. This means he was one of the best players in the Southeastern Conference. He was also considered for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation's best tight end.

Sadly, in August 2008, Cornelius hurt his knee badly during practice. This injury meant he could not play his entire senior season.

Professional Football Journey

Even with his injury, Cornelius was still a talented player. The Philadelphia Eagles picked him in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL draft. He signed a four-year contract with them.

Time with the Eagles

Unfortunately, Cornelius tore his anterior cruciate ligament again during the Eagles' training camp in 2009. This was the same knee injury he had in college. Because of this, he was placed on the injured reserve list. This means he couldn't play that season.

He was later put on the Eagles' practice squad. Players on the practice squad train with the team but don't usually play in games. He was released and re-signed to the practice squad a few times. He left the Eagles in 2011.

Other NFL Teams

In September 2011, the Detroit Lions signed Cornelius to their practice squad. However, he was released later that month due to another injury.

The Denver Broncos signed Cornelius to their practice squad in December 2011. He hoped to make the main team roster in 2012 but was waived before the season started. He was briefly on their practice squad again before being released in September 2012.

Life After Playing Football

After his playing career, Cornelius Ingram returned to his hometown. He became a successful coach.

Coaching at His Old School

In December 2014, Cornelius became the head football coach at Hawthorne High School (Florida). This is the same high school he attended! He had already been a volunteer coach there.

His football team reached the state championship game in Florida's 1A division in 2020 and 2021. In 2022, he led the Hawthorne Hornets to their first state title ever, winning 13–2. They won again in 2023, beating Madison County 22–13.

Besides football, Cornelius also coaches the Hawthorne girls' basketball team. He led them to win Florida 1A state championships in 2020, 2023, and 2024.
