Cornlea is a small village located in Platte County, Nebraska, in the United States. In 2020, about 33 people lived there.
History
Cornlea started in 1886 as a small stop along a railroad line. It was called a "siding," which is a short track next to a main railway line. This allowed trains to pull over and let other trains pass.
The village got its name because it is located in the Corn Belt. This area is known for growing a lot of corn. So, "Cornlea" means "land of corn." Many of the first people who settled here were German Catholics. Cornlea officially became a village in 1902.
A post office opened in Cornlea in 1887. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, it closed down in 1989.
