List of Nebraska townships facts for kids
The U.S. state of Nebraska is divided into smaller areas to help manage local government. These areas are called counties, and Nebraska has 93 of them!
Some of these counties are further split into even smaller parts called townships. Think of them like neighborhoods or smaller districts within a county. In Nebraska, 25 counties have these townships, and there are 460 townships in total.
Counties and Their Divisions
Not all counties in Nebraska are divided the same way.
- Townships: 25 counties are divided into townships. These townships often have their own local government to help with things like roads and local services.
- Precincts: 63 counties are divided into areas called precincts. These are similar to townships but usually don't have their own local government. Instead, the county government handles things directly.
- No Subdivisions: Four counties in Nebraska don't have townships or precincts. These are Banner, Hooker, Thomas, and Arthur counties. This means the county government manages everything directly in these areas.
Back in 2000, Thomas County used to have three precincts, but that's changed since then. The way counties are divided helps organize local services and voting for the people living there.
