Who was Coronel Suárez?
The city and its district are named after Manuel Isidoro Suárez (1799–1846). He was a colonel in the Argentine Army. He fought bravely in the wars to make Argentina independent from Spain. Colonel Suárez led soldiers from Peru and Colombia to victory. This happened at the Battle of Junín in Peru on August 6, 1824. Founding the City
The city of Coronel Suárez was officially started on May 28, 1883. A man named Eduardo Casey founded it. It was built near the edge of what was then Indian territory. A fort was also built next to the Sauce Corto river to protect the new settlement. Many of the first people to settle here were Volga German immigrants. They came from a region in Russia.
