Cory Nicholas Harkey was born on June 17, 1990. He used to play American football as a tight end. Now, he is a coach for the Buffalo Bills team in the National Football League (NFL). He helps coach the special teams. Cory started his professional career with the St. Louis Rams in 2012. Before that, he played college football at UCLA.
College Football Journey
Cory went to Chino Hills High School. After high school, he played college football for UCLA. He played in every game during his time there. In his first year, he started seven games. He mostly helped block for other players. He also caught five passes for 40 yards and scored one touchdown.
During his second year, Cory was still mainly a blocker. He started four games in special formations. He caught eight passes for 41 yards and scored another touchdown. In his third year, Cory started every game for the Bruins. This was his best year for catching the ball. He caught 14 passes for 140 yards.
In his final year, Cory started every game again. He caught one pass for 10 yards. After the season, his coaches gave him two special awards. These were the Jerry Long "Heart" Award and the Kenneth S. Washington Award. They recognized him as an outstanding senior player.
Playing in the NFL
After college, Cory was not chosen in the NFL draft. But the St. Louis Rams signed him as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2012. This means he joined the team even without being drafted. At first, he was on the Rams' practice squad. This is a group of players who practice with the team.
On November 17, 2012, Cory joined the main team roster. He played in his first NFL game. He scored his first touchdown against the Houston Texans on October 13, 2013. Cory often played as a fullback for the Rams. A fullback is a player who blocks for running backs.
In March 2015, Cory signed a new one-year contract with the Rams. On December 13, 2016, he got a triceps injury. Because of this, he was placed on injured reserve. This means he could not play for the rest of the season. On September 2, 2017, the Rams released Cory from the team.
About Cory's Life
Cory's dad is Mike Harkey. Mike used to play Major League Baseball. He is now a coach for the New York Yankees baseball team. Cory has said that Tony Gonzalez was his biggest inspiration as a player. Tony Gonzalez was a famous tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons.
