Sir Cosmo Dugal Patrick Thomas Haskard (born November 25, 1916 – died February 21, 2017) was an important British official and a brave officer in the British Army. He was born in Ireland but worked for the British government. Sir Cosmo lived to be 100 years old!

Sir Cosmo Haskard's Life and Work
Cosmo Haskard was born in Dublin, Ireland. His parents were John McDougal and Alicia "Lily" Haskard. He went to Cambridge University, a very famous school in England.
While at Cambridge, he joined a special training group for future army officers. He became a 'second lieutenant' in the army in 1938.
Military Career
In 1939, Haskard became a second lieutenant in the Royal Irish Fusiliers. This was an infantry unit of the British Army. He fought in the Second World War. By the end of the war, he had become a captain.
For his service during the war, he received an award called the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This award is given for great achievements or service to the country.
After the war, he continued to serve in the army. In 1949, he was promoted to the rank of captain. He later held the honorary rank of major. He left the army in 1966.
Governor of the Falkland Islands
From 1964 to 1970, Sir Cosmo Haskard served as the Governor of the Falkland Islands. The Falkland Islands are a group of islands in the South Atlantic Ocean. A governor is like a leader or representative for the British government in that area.
In 1965, he received another important honor. He was made a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG). This is a very high award given for service to the British Empire.
