Costa Teguise is a sunny town on the island of Lanzarote, which is part of the Canary Islands in Spain. It was built especially for tourists, meaning it was planned from the start to be a great place for holidays. Before any buildings were constructed, the streets were carefully laid out and prepared.
The town has four main beaches, all of which are natural and beautiful: Playa de los Charcos, Playa de las Cucharas, Playa del Jablillo, and Playa Bastián.

History of Costa Teguise
Costa Teguise was designed to be a top tourist spot on the island. Construction started in 1970 with the first five-star hotel on Lanzarote, the Gran Meliá Salinas. This hotel was designed by a famous architect named Fernando Higueras, with help from local artist César Manrique. Since then, many other hotels have been built, making Costa Teguise a popular destination.
Beaches in Costa Teguise
Costa Teguise is famous for its four main beaches. Each one offers something a little different!
- Playa de las Cucharas is the biggest beach and has toasted, golden sand. It's very popular for windsurfing. Every year, a big windsurfing competition called the PWA World Tour is held here.
- Playa de los Charcos is very close to Playa de las Cucharas, but it has soft white sand.
- Playa del Jablillo is the smallest and most peaceful beach in Costa Teguise. It has calm waters because of special walls that act like natural pools, especially when the tide is low. This beach also has beautiful white sand.
- Playa Bastián is located a bit further south of the town. It's a mix of white sand and small volcanic stones, which are called picón on the islands.
Sports and Activities
Golf in Costa Teguise
Costa Teguise Golf was designed by John Harris and opened in the late 1970s. For about 30 years, it was the only golf course on Lanzarote. The course is designed to fit in with the island's natural look, using palm trees and the black volcanic gravel (picón) as part of the game.
