The Courtelary District was a special area in Switzerland. It was one of three districts in the Bernese Jura region where people mostly spoke French. The other two were La Neuveville and Moutier.
This district was part of the canton of Bern, which is like a state in Switzerland. The main town and capital of the Courtelary District was Courtelary. Back in 2004, about 22,224 people lived there.
On January 1, 2010, the Courtelary District, along with La Neuveville and Moutier, joined together. They formed a new, bigger district called Jura Bernois. The capital of this new district is also Courtelary.

This change helped simplify how the region was governed. It also aimed to strengthen the French-speaking identity within the canton of Bern. The new district continues to be an important part of the canton.
