The Moutier District was a special area in Switzerland. It was one of three districts in the Bernese Jura region where people mostly spoke French. A district is like a smaller administrative area within a larger region, similar to a county. The main town and capital of Moutier District was Moutier.
In 2004, about 23,098 people lived in the Moutier District. It was one of three French-speaking districts in the canton of Bern, along with Courtelary and La Neuveville. A canton in Switzerland is like a state or province.
What Happened to Moutier District?
On January 1, 2010, the Moutier District changed. It joined with the Courtelary and La Neuveville districts. Together, they formed a new, larger district called Jura Bernois. The capital of this new district is Courtelary. This change helped to organize the region differently.
