Courtney Jerome Anderson Sr. was born on November 19, 1980. He is a former American football player who played as a tight end. Anderson grew up in Richmond, California. He played college football at Contra Costa College and San Jose State University. The Oakland Raiders picked him in the 2004 NFL draft. He played three seasons with the Raiders. After that, he was part of several other NFL teams. Today, he works as a firefighter in Milpitas, California.

Early Life and College Football

Courtney Anderson was born in Greenville, Texas. He went to Richmond High School in California. There, he was a star athlete in football, basketball, and track and field. In football, he played as a quarterback, wide receiver, and defensive linebacker. In 1998, he caught 50 passes for over 1,000 yards. He also scored 12 touchdowns.

Anderson was part of the 1999 Richmond Oilers basketball team. This team was coached by Ken Carter. Their story was even made into the famous movie Coach Carter!

After high school, Anderson attended Contra Costa College for two years. He played wide receiver in football before switching to tight end. Later, he transferred to San Jose State University. In college, he caught 36 passes for 477 yards and scored seven touchdowns. He also studied sociology.

Professional Football Career

Playing for the Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders chose Courtney Anderson in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL draft. He was the 245th player picked overall. In his first year, he played in nine games and started four of them. He caught 13 passes for 175 yards and scored one touchdown.

In his second season, Anderson played in 14 games and started 13. He caught 24 passes for 303 yards and scored three touchdowns. During his three years with the Raiders, Anderson had a total of 62 catches. He gained 763 yards and scored six touchdowns. The Raiders released him before the 2007 season began.

Playing for Other Teams

After leaving the Raiders, Anderson joined several other NFL teams. He went to training camp with the Miami Dolphins in 2007. Later that year, he signed with the Detroit Lions and played in two games.

He then moved to the Atlanta Falcons in November 2007. In 2008, he signed with the Buffalo Bills. Finally, in 2009, he joined the Houston Texans. After these short stints, Anderson ended his professional football career.
