History of Cove Creek

Long ago, the area around Cove Creek was important for travelers. About two miles above where Cove Fort now stands, there was a special spring. This spring was surrounded by willow trees.

In 1849, a traveler named Charles C. Rich wrote about this spring in his diary. He called it Emigrant Spring. It was a very helpful spot for people traveling on the Mormon Road. This road was a path used by early settlers and pioneers. The spring offered "good grass and water." This made it a perfect place for travelers to camp and rest. They could find good camping spots along a two-mile stretch of Cove Creek. This was especially useful for those traveling between Corn Creek and Sage Creek.
