How Craig Beach Amusement Park Started
An entertainer named Ward Craig saw a chance to create something special. He started "Craig's Landing" to watch the dam being built. Soon, it grew into a place where people could buy snacks, swim, rent boats, and have picnics.
In 1922, Ward Craig created the Craig Beach Amusement Park. It was built right next to the new Lake Milton. The park had fun rides, a big dance hall, and even small cottages for rent. It quickly became a very popular spot for entertainment in the area.
Famous Visitors and Growth
During the 1930s, many famous big bands came to perform at the dance hall. A future famous singer named Dean Martin even started his career there. He performed with these orchestras at Craig Beach. The village of Craig Beach officially became a village in 1931.
