What Makes Craiglich Special?

Craiglich is a popular place for hillwalking. Its height and location make it a great spot to see the surrounding countryside. The hill is part of a group of hills known for their beautiful scenery. Being a "Marilyn" means it has a drop of at least 150 metres (about 492 feet) on all sides, making it stand out from other hills nearby.

The Queen's Favorite View

One of the most famous spots on Craiglich is called the Queen's View. This viewpoint is located at the western end of the hill. It was a special place for Queen Victoria, who ruled Britain from 1837 to 1901. She loved this view on her way to Balmoral Castle, her Scottish home.

The Queen's View is very easy to reach. It is right across from a small car park on the B9119 road, which runs between Lumphanan and Tarland. This makes it one of the most accessible viewpoints in northeast Scotland. From here, you can see a spectacular panoramic view of the landscape. You can spot distant mountains like Mount Keen, Lochnagar, and even parts of the large Cairngorms mountain range.
