Craigshill is a neighborhood located in the eastern part of Livingston, Scotland. It's surrounded by other areas. To its west, you'll find the A899 road. Beyond that are places like Howden, Ladywell, and Knightsridge. To the south is the village of Mid Calder. North of Craigshill are the Houston Industrial Estate and the village of Pumpherston.

History of Craigshill

Craigshill was the very first area built in Livingston. Construction began in 1966. This was after Livingston was chosen to be a New Town. Before this, the oldest building still standing is Craigsfarm. It is near Riverside Primary School and is now a community center.

Craigshill is divided into six main sections. Each section has a special naming theme for its streets and roads.

Schools in Craigshill

Craigshill has three primary schools for younger students. These are Letham Primary, Riverside Primary, and Beatlie Primary. Beatlie Primary used to be called Almondbank Primary. Almondbank Library is located right next to the Craigshill Shopping Mall. You can also find The Co-operative Food store there. This store was once known as Somerfield and Kwik Save.

Local Sites and Sports

In the northern part of Craigshill, you'll find the Livingston Squadron of the Air Training Corps (2535). They meet in Maple Grove. Craigshill also has two public houses, which are like local pubs. They are called The Stirrup Stane and The Tower. There is also a Masonic Hall, home to Lodge Almondvale 1658.

The Livingston Rugby Club is based in this area. Their sports ground is located next to the River Almond. Nearby, you'll also find the Xcite Craigswood sports center. This center is home to the Livingston Boxing Club and the Letham Bowling Club.

Religious Buildings

Craigshill is home to three churches. St. Columba's Church was taken down in June 2010. Craigshill also has West Lothian's first mosque.
