The Scary Stories Inside

The Werewolf of Fever Swamp

Meet Grady Tucker and his family. They move into a new house right next to a spooky place called Fever Swamp. Grady finds a big, wolf-like stray dog. He convinces his parents to let him keep it, and he names the dog Wolf.

But then, something terrible happens. An animal breaks into the deer pen in their yard and kills a deer. Grady's dad thinks Wolf is responsible. He decides Wolf must be taken to the animal pound. Grady helps Wolf escape before his dad can catch him.

That night, Grady hears howling again. He decides to explore Fever Swamp to find out what's going on. There, he meets his friend, Will Blake. Under the full moon, Will slowly starts to turn into a werewolf. The new werewolf bites Grady. But Wolf suddenly attacks and kills Will. On the next full moon, Grady himself changes into a werewolf. He joins Wolf in hunting under the moonlight.

The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight

This story is about a brother and sister, Mark and Jodie. They are visiting their grandparents, Curtis and Miriam. The kids start to notice strange things happening at night. The scarecrows seem to be moving! And their grandparents are acting very oddly.

Jodie thinks that Sticks, the groundskeeper Stanley's son, is making the scarecrows move. For fun, Jodie dresses Mark up as a scarecrow to get back at Sticks. But then, a scarecrow tries to hurt Jodie. Sticks explains that his dad, Stanley, brought the scarecrows to life a long time ago. Curtis and Miriam have been trying to keep Stanley happy. This way, the scarecrows will stay asleep.

After scaring Stanley with the scarecrow costume, the scarecrows start walking towards them. Sticks uses torches to burn all the scarecrows. They all fall to the ground. The next afternoon, Jodie sees a stuffed bear move a little. This makes her wonder if the magic is truly gone.

The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena

Ana and Luis Garcia go on an exciting trip to Alaska with their father. Their goal is to find a mysterious snow creature known as the Abominable Snowman. They eventually find the Snowman frozen in a block of ice.

Their father decides to take the Snowman back home to Pasadena, California. Before they leave, Luis secretly puts some snowballs into the trunk. This is the same trunk where the Snowman will be kept for the trip home.

Back in Pasadena, they show their neighbor, Lauren Sax, the frozen Snowman. Ana throws a snowball from the trunk at Lauren. It misses her and hits a tree instead. This causes the snow to suddenly grow huge! It covers their entire yard in snow. Lauren grabs some of the growing snow and throws it at Ana. Ana quickly becomes covered in ice.

The heat from the furnace and oven doesn't help to melt the ice around Ana. So, Luis gets the Snowman to break out of its ice block. The Snowman then defrosts Ana and escapes.
