Creston is a small, unincorporated community located in the southeastern part of Wirt County, West Virginia, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity but without its own local government.

This community is special because it sits right where two rivers meet: the Little Kanawha River and the West Fork Little Kanawha River. You can find Creston along West Virginia Route 5. It's located southeast of Elizabeth, which is the main town and county seat of Wirt County.

Creston is about 653 feet (199 meters) above sea level. It used to have its own post office, but it closed on June 25, 2011. The name "Creston" comes from a "drainage divide" nearby. A drainage divide is like a ridge of high ground that separates two different river systems.

Understanding Creston's Climate

The weather in Creston is known for its hot and humid summers. Winters are generally mild, meaning they are not too cold.

What is a Humid Subtropical Climate?

Creston has what scientists call a humid subtropical climate. This type of climate is often shown as "Cfa" on climate maps. It means the area gets plenty of rainfall throughout the year. Summers are usually hot and sticky, while winters are cool but not freezing. This climate is common in many parts of the southeastern United States.
